The music at that particular Safeway was always crappy, but I figured they just wanted us in and out as fast as possible. What freaked me out is that I always used to have guys try to hit on me there by saying "I know you from somewhere." This happened for the first time a week after I'd moved to DC from Australia, and when I assured the guy politely that there was no way he knew me he went to full on attack and said "Well no need be so rude. You're not a very nice person." And I said "Maybe you'll just have to learn to tell the truth if you want to try and hit on a woman in a grocery store in future." Creepy. I'd just like to know he reacted when a girl was genuinely rude to him...

That man was trying to save face when you told him the truth. Men who like to harass women in public spaces don't like having their masculinity questioned (rolling eyes), so they'll start to insult you. They don't like being called on their loser ways. Glad you told him off. I cannot stand those losers.

As for Blacks liking certain music, not all Blacks listen to hip-hop and gangsta rap. I'm Black, and while I won't listen to Michael Bolton I love 80s pop & R&B.

Wrongheaded? Yes.

We don't have monolithic musical tastes, my friend.

GF

I don't think I implied that you have monolithic musical tastes, but I accept my wrongheadedness. However, you're going to need to stop by that Safeway sometime and see (or hear) what I mean.

I work as a checker at Safeway. I'm still trying to get down to the root of "who picks out that god-awful music?" thing.

somebody reassure me please.

Good article worthy of appreciation
